What is the Housing Choice Voucher program?
The Housing Choice Voucher program (HCV) program is a federally assisted program created in 1974 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
It allows federal funds to be paid to owners of private market housing units that are made available for lower income families. DHA provides payments directly to participating property owners to offset the
cost difference between tenant payments and unit rent.? Program applicants may choose from a variety of housing options including apartments, duplexes, single-family homes and townhomes.

Properties are located throughout the city of Dallas and DHA's area of operation.
How big are the homes?
Homes range in size from efficiency apartments (0 bedrooms with living area, kitchen and bath) to homes with multiple bedrooms.
How much is rent?
Rent is based on income. Tenants receive a utility allowance based on a formula from HUD.
How do I apply?
The HCV program is closed to new applicants at this time due to changes in federal funding.
